
1 Product Design Project


This project involved designing innovative packaging for a brand that operates within South Africa. I selected the delectable Dead Man’s Fingers, a renowned rum brand, and set out to create a unique and captivating collector’s can. The design features a pirate map motif, evoking a sense of adventure and mystery, which aligns perfectly with the brand’s bold and unconventional spirit. To enhance the interactive experience, I incorporated a QR code on the packaging. Scanning this code allows consumers to engage with exclusive content, further deepening their connection with the brand. This approach not only highlights the product’s unique appeal but also adds an element of fun and engagement for the consumer.
For the label design, I retained the brand’s iconic skull and text style to maintain brand recognition and authenticity. However, I introduced several new elements to enhance the packaging’s visual appeal and align it with the pirate theme. I added a scroll-themed text heading that reads “Stand a Chance to Win,” enticing customers with the prospect of winning a prize. To complement this, I incorporated a detailed compass design, symbolizing exploration and adventure, which is central to the brand’s identity. Additionally, I included a dotted line, reminiscent of the treasure trails found on classic pirate maps, guiding the eye around the can and adding an element of intrigue and discovery. These enhancements not only preserve the brand’s original aesthetic but also elevate the packaging to make it more engaging and appealing to consumers.
